Scott Hearon
What is the first character trait that pops into your mind when you hear “youth director”? Is it humorous or goofy? Is it very outgoing and creative? Is it deeply intelligent and wise?
Scott Hearon has few of these traits. To be honest, he might possibly be the most under qualified and sparsely talented associate youth director in the history of associate youth directors. But take heart, not all hope is lost because of the two following reasons.
Reason 1: He claims a great ability for bad religious sports analogies. Yep, that’s right, tired sports analogies. You know the kind. The Bible is the playbook and the coach is…well you better know who the coach is or you are going to the permanent penalty box right? So, because in youth group you can never have enough examples that relate the Ten Commands to out of bounds lines or the Apostle Paul to Michael Jordan, Scott feels comfortable describing himself only as the rookie left guard of the First Presbyterian Youth Team. With the amount of returning talent that FPC has on the roster this year, including perennial All Stars Ellie (Center), Linda (Fullback), Trey (WR/CB/KR), Courtney (RB), Teddy (Athlete), all led by MVP quarterback Mark, Scott is simply ecstatic to be on the field trying his hardest to fulfill his role.
Reason 2: The God of the Universe has a long history of taking under qualified, underachieving, average, and broken people and using them in his plan to bring aid to the weary and reconcile the world back to Himself. Scott is banking on this trend.
Off the field, Scott is interested in anything to do with travelling, trying new things, and being outside. Some of his favorite past times are duck hunting, fishing, playing with his dogs, going to the lake, and playing any game where a ball is involved. He also enjoys reading although he often has a hard time understanding a lot of what he opens up. A 2006 graduate of Montgomery Bell Academy, Scott is excited to be back home in the Southeast after recently graduating from Baylor University in Waco, TX.
“So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:18
