Brandon Van Pernis

Brandon Van Pernis

Similar to FPC youth staffer Teddy Christenberry, Brandon also grew up at FPC where he is well known for his accomplishments of intentionally wrecking a bike off of a ramp for a Sunday school video, worst Frisbee golf player of the year (2003), only summer staffer to have an ambulance called for him, and causing a roof collapse during a Tijuana spring break mission trip. With all of these irrelevant accolades, you might be asking yourself what it is about Brandon that allowed him such an awesome opportunity at FPC-well the fact is that he’s tan. Yes, he’s very tan. Thanks to his mother, who is from Colombia, South America, one of the positives he brings to the ministry is his complexion and fluency in not only Spanish, but in the English language as well.

Brandon graduated from Montgomery Bell Academy in 2007 and from Auburn University in 2011 where he received a degree in Public Administration. While it is fact that orange and blue run through his veins, he is known for his tolerance of other universities and welcomes lively discussion of college athletics whenever possible.

While Brandon considers Nashville home, he loves visiting and experiencing cultures from around the world. He excels on the soccer field with ball skills that remind many of Brazilian great Ronaldinho and is an All-American flag football player at the WR/RB/S/CB/DE/DL positions. He also shows streaks of talent on the basketball court where he is known for his left-handed crossover. His favorite desserts include chocolate chip cookies, apple pie, and chocolate chip brownies with Andes chocolates swirled into the mix. Any and all of these desserts are accepted 24/7. While Brandon struggles getting through more than 3 pages of reading during any one sitting, he does appreciate 2 sentence summaries of books.

Currently his favorite verse comes from Hebrews 11:1, “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.”
